Am I the only one still thinking about LisaRaye’s character (Keisha) on “Single Ladies” making Paula Deen’s Praline French Toast Casserole?

As many new couples do, “Keisha” and “Malcolm” realize they’ve been ignoring everyone else in their lives in order to spend time together, so they decide to have a brunch to prove they can still be social.  This was also Keisha’s first time meeting her boo’s dad, and she was eager to impress him with her cooking skills.

Ummm, hello – YUM!!??  After the show aired I jumped on Google and found the recipe on the Food Network courtesy of the Queen of Southern Cuisine herself.  I’ll definitely be making this for DH and the kiddos one weekend!

1 loaf French bread

8 large eggs

2 cups half-and-half

1 cup milk

2 tbs granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

dash salt

maple syrup

Slice French bread into 20 slices, 1-inch each.  Arrange slices in a generously buttered 9 x13-inch flat baking dish in 2 rows, overlapping the slices. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and beat with a rotary beater or whisk until blended but not too bubbly. Pour mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with the milk-egg mixture. Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Spread Praline Topping evenly over the bread and bake for 40 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden. Serve with maple syrup.

Praline Topping:

1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter

1 cup packed light brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

2 tbs light corn syrup

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and blend well. Serves 8

Meanwhile, how classic and pretty did Stacey look in a white vintage Thierry Mugler dress paired with electric blue Christian Louboutin Open Lips suede pumps as she headed in to Malcolm’s home for brunch? My closet called… and it wants that dress BAD! Unfortunately (for me), that won’t be happening any time soon since it’s a one-of-a-kind design.
